大家所说的丘成桐的这个批评我是一无所知。今天早晨我才拿到这个关于丘成桐批评的资
料。给你们先简单介绍一下丘成桐。丘成桐是加州Berkeley大学的学生。当年陈省身先生
访问香港,在香港的一个外国教授跟陈先生介绍说丘成桐是个不错的学生,那时丘刚念完
大二。陈先生回来就和我讲,看来这个人不错,我说那不简单吗,把他请到Berkeley来作
研究生。所以他大二刚念完我们就给了他一个奖学金,他就到Berkeley来念书了。他做数
学是很努力很用功的,陈先生对他也有很多照顾。因为我有先前的经验,知道丘成桐的话
常常是蛮横而不公平的,所以丘的言论我是一概置之不理的。我今天很吃惊,有这么多人
为了丘成桐的话跑来问我,这里挤得还水泄不通,这对我来讲是很吃惊的一件(笑)。我
们应有的基本态度是,当一些人,对你或者你所在的北大,或者是你所认识的人做一些批

布什尔大学的讲师。
“学术午餐报告会”(Colloquium Lunch)是普林斯顿数学系的传统,相当于一种
非正式而特殊的荣誉。老教授约翰·纳什1994年获得诺贝尔经济学奖以后,另一位教授
安德鲁·怀尔斯1995年攻克数学史上著名的费马大定理以后,系里给他们主办过同样的

topic,做一下介绍。
如果是作为PHD课程的继续,也是很好的,不过要求提出问题方多给出一些follow up,
这样不会搁置太多的open topic. |

Period. I greatly respect this field and please do not misinterpret it.
Talking about theories, I even do not buy a lot of ideas that 'conventional'
condensed matter physists threw out. So it is really unnecessary to be
pissed.
In the end, may I humbly ask if condensed matter thoery will boost the
development of string theory because of the universality of every thing?

presentation,没想到来四十多个人,我记得以前去参见类似的 colloquium 的时候,
也就两三个人,吃不完的东西还能打包带回家吃,我那次,等我做完 presentation,
赶紧端着盘子去拿食物的时候,就剩下菜汤泡米饭了。。。。 |
