l*******o 发帖数: 669 | 2 This climb involves no glacier traveling on ascent, so we didn't rope up,
except for a very short section where we placed pickets for running belay.
Self/team arrest is nearly impossible so unless we use running belay, roping
up makes no sense.
During the climb we unanimously decided that we should climb an easier route
next year. We saw how straightforward Kautz Glacier was when our route
merged with Kautz Cleavor. So our next attempt will be Kautz Glacier. |

Success Cleavor up, camping on the summit, DC (or ID) down. |
|
l*******o 发帖数: 669 | 4 The approach is by Tahoma creek trail and it is in as bad a condition as
three years when we climbed Tahoma Glacier |

l*******o 发帖数: 669 | 5 Suspension bridge on Wonderland trail. Highlight of the approach. |

|
l*******o 发帖数: 669 | 7 Steep and exposed traverse thought a series of chutes. One slip then you are
history. (pictures really do not show the steepness.) |
|
c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 8 that's a nice platform for the camp! |

|
l*******o 发帖数: 669 | 11 This climb blows my expectation. It is such a fantastic climb and while not
exceedingly hard, it is much harder than what the guide books describe. We
hit the route in its best possible condition, and so was that of Liberty
Ridge when we climbed it last year, all of us feel this is more difficult,
more risky and way more interesting than Liberty Ridge.
Now I have climbed all three summits of Rainier. |

c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 12 congrats! awesome job. I guess you didn't count little T as a summit of
Rainier? :)

l*******o 发帖数: 669 | 13 Thanks.
No. The three summits are Clumbia Crest, Liberty Cap and Point Success. |

b***y 发帖数: 824 | 16 And no need to rope up? Did not see any roped action pictures. |

c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 18 I heard Kautz is a fun and moderate route. It's on my list since last year
but it looks like my calender is filled for this season :(
