我想这个学期上2门生统的课,以non-degree的身份,因为GRE过期了,还要再考一次,这样
春天入学就能接上了,不然要等明年的秋天
今天和chair的meeting,出了2道很简单的题,一个积分的,一个矩阵的,真的很简单的那
种,可惜的是,因为时间太久,本科毕业已经10年了,没做出来,我解释说我以前学过,会很
快pick up,但chair坚持要我上线代,然后再注册课程
1.我说我GRE以前满分,chair不在乎
2.我说我在别的州选过一门生统的课,chair说,我必须有那个老师的推荐信,而且强调推
荐信如果太晚,就不能选课了,我说我得了个B+,chair有点表示鄙视,然后还说,推荐信必
须是证明我学的非常好的,才行!
3.我说我在中国的研究室做的也是模型,药物方面的,无视!
这个chair是不是对我有偏见阿,还是因为他是数学出身,对学生的数学基础要求特别高
而且我觉得,他百忙之中单独叫一个non-degree的学生谈,还给我出2个题目,本来就有要

发帖数: 3337 | 15 今天带着娃去babiesrus试high chair,graco blossom high chair 和chicco的high
chair感觉是娃坐上去最舒服的，graco contempo有点大，而且支架好像轻一些，担心
不稳。看到之前有几个人推荐graco blossom，最后决定把它抬回来了。
回家坐了以后，发现几个问题 ：
1，这个high chair座位比较高，宝宝不带安全带的话，或者在没有安装tray的情况下
很容易翻下来。
2， 我看到chicco的座位下面有一个可以抬起来的放脚的支架，这个有利于宝宝休息，
这个high chair就没有
3 设计比较笨重，不fashion
现在才发现我们原来用的evenflo后背也是可以调节的，唉，真笨，早知道能调节就买
了椅垫得了，其实想想，孩子坐high chair时间不会很长，为什么要买那么贵的呢，而且又不是很满意。。。。有
这些钱给孩子攒着当学费多好。他爸今天跟孩子说，你妈太舍得花钱了，你上大学的钱
都没了。。。。我觉得有道理，想了再想，决定明天去退 |

faculty meeting, what if the chair's, let us say, enemies, control in the

are different from the chair's?

发帖数: 153 | 21 4月底签了offer，当时全部都是跟Dean联系的。接完之后当天给SC和系里面支持我的老
师发了信说很高兴以后一起工作云云，Dean回复我接offer的email时候抄送了
Department Chair。 Department Chair是个印度人(也是SC Chair)，当时并没有支持
我（我是第二顺位），所以接了offer之后我没特意发信。前几天因为准备搬过去了，
跟Chair发邮件说一下自己的schedule，和什么时间可以拿到EAD卡，问这个schedule是
否OK，并顺带说了下如果系里有安排了请随时联系我我好准备啥的，最后附带说了句很
激动可以在他
lead之下工作什么的，没有任何回音。这个Chair从我一开始电面，onsite所有的感谢
信通通没回，唯一回的一封是当时我用别的offer催他给结果的时候他说我给的
deadline之前他给不了。想问一下现在这是什么意思，得罪他了么。这样会不会对以后

会投票确定最终的人选.
他们这次总共要招2个人, 候选人总共是6个. 我让那边认识的人打听了下其他候选人
的情况: 基本是3个人在竞争,我算其中一个. 另外一个是在top5的医学院PHD毕业,然
后继续在那里做postdoc,文章也比较强.我感觉他很可能要占据一个名额.最后一个在一
般的学校,做的东西一般,手段也很单一.但此人有个multi-PI的从今年才开始的R0. 我
的文章情况是弱于前一个,但比后者强,此外,我只有一个很小的2年的grant.
search committee chair 认识我现任老板和前任老板. 我和他是校友,都在同一个系呆
过,但他很早就离开了那个系,和我没有交集. 一开始申请的时候,chair也私下写信给
我现任老板询问过我的情况. 2个老板写的推荐信算比较强和详细 (他们在发之前让我
看了看).
想请教下大家,这个关键时候需要现任和前任老板给这个chair再写个信或者打个电话推

邀请当co-chair。责任肯定是要有的，取决于是会议的co-chair还是其中某个session
的co-chair。如果是会议的co-chair，大概要帮助一下会议的组织，session的co-
chair就比较简单，就是去在每个人报告之前念一下题目和作者姓名、单位，然后控制
一下每个报告的时间。 |

Resident recruitment is totally up to PD. PD will glean the suggestions from

There may be more but I was able to locate these 3. Super YMMV, I think at
the one store the guy who went to find it saw the price on the computer and

候provost也可能牵涉进来。
既然SC chair这么说了，成的可能性是很大的，有可能chair和SC chair之间通过气。
但还不能假设offer就到手了。

美会说会来事，如果chair是欣赏performance好的，至少对我们非母语的人来说，会简
单很多。至于vision这个东西，很难说清楚。要是系里faculty个顶个的强，其实chair
有没有vision没那么重要－因为他／她的faculty会帮他／她一起把这个系弄好。 |

结果被chair给郁闷到了。
这封通知我拿到funding的邮件是群发给我和chair的,chair回复了这封邮件，并且还cc
了系里的其他老师，但是chair的回复内容却是恭喜系里另一个也得到这个funding的老
师（而且她并没有cc给那个老师），还说什么那个老师的proposal内容很好，很必要。

也是我本科导师）的邮件主动说现在有个endowed chair faculty opening，问我是否
感兴趣。
我自己毕业后在工业界工作三年，从没想过进Academia，这一下懵了，其实对研究很有
兴趣，看了看背景也蛮合适，想着或许是个好的机会，有点心动。只是有点迷茫这种主
动出击的操作，考古了一下好像没找到有先例，想请教一下各位有经验的前辈
1）这种情况是因为系里已经觉得我的资历qualify吗？是否希望较大？（系里相关方向
的老师对我的情况非常熟悉）

我的建议是，带宝宝去店里看实物，把宝宝放进去一一试试
很多东西网上review都很好，可是也许只是价格便宜使然，让人的期望值降低了
实际上，便宜的一些东东，从空间上，质地上，还是差点的
我原来觉得孩子的东西买便宜的就好了，不过high chair这玩意
一天至少3顿，天天使用，差不多2年吧，买个好的，宝宝喜欢舒适的
还是非常值得的

booster seat方便出门时用，有小客人来的时候也可以用。
high chair能从很小用到很大。我家老大从一个多月就偶尔扔在high chair里喝奶，四
个月上辅食的时候用high chair能坐的比较稳，用booster seat就有点晃了。现在他两
岁多，坐booster seat已经比较挤，坐high chair还是很舒服。看起来还能再坐一段时
间，一直坐到他能直接跟大人一样围着饭桌吃饭为止了。 |
