career fair上投的简历。有些就是前天投简历，然后HR当晚就决定是否明天给on
campus interview。career fair投了简历之后确实需要再去网上再投，但是通过和HR
的talk可以了解一下公司目前需要招什么人，公司的具体业务如何之类的，就当是去和
人练练口语也好。 |

部分fresh graduate都对career path抱着很多不切实际的看法，hiring manager说
几句空头支票的话就找不着北了，实际上往往不是他们想象的那么简单，不如去钱多的
来的实在。

Fresh Optics Phd求career path 建议，自己对industry的了解不够，所以来求前辈们
的指导，万分感谢
有身份，第一份工作, 在KLA做engineering的工作， 给了offer，
催着要去上班，主要是长经验，salary不是最考虑的，主要是看以后发展空间大
不大，换工作方便不（应该不会在加州安家），我在indeed搜了一圈
，找不到什么相关的职位（也许我search的不对），看glassdoor上的的review，说
career growth不好，non-transferable technique。还说做product development的，
只能focus 你自己的那部分

做技术工作，四十出头，收入base12w加奖金14w左右，但感觉基本上career path到头
了，且产品面临换代最多再维持个１、2年，有些外在的压力
如果去做同行业网络方面technical sales （base 18w加奖金20w）请问有什么利弊，
前途如何？做sales是不是很累，没有固定的工作时间，另外phd对sales有没有帮助？
其实现在的工作就是经常跟customer/vender打交道，对解决客户的问题比较有信心
除此之外还有其它选择没有

本科国内top5数学，master来美国top5读了一个不算太水的偏operations的degree。国
内家里做生意，不算大富大贵，小康以上应该算得上，独生子。
原本跟风想进华尔街，结果由于自己是半路出家，准备不充分，虽然面过很多顶级投行
，但一个offer没捞到。准备毕业回国之际，仗着学校reputation和地理优势，硬是在
没有任何technical skill的情况下拿到湾区一个老牌大型financial service公司的
data analytics的offer。工资不高8W不到，没有股票期权。
工作两个月，由于组里project很多，加上我本来会的就少，所以过的挺stressful的，
learning curve也挺steep的。招我进来的大老板是中国人，五十左右的年纪，非常
nice（整个analytics group中国人很多，氛围都很nice），后来安排我report给印度
小老板，也算是实在人。
现在很困惑我的主要是两个问题：

，可是之前做的项目很悲剧地被砍掉了，没有钱支撑下去。之前希望在这个项目上展开

现在我的老板说，可以给我一年postdoc我再继续做做，之后就没钱了，我好自为之。
我听了既高兴又担心，做了一年以后，又得到处寻找，是不是有点太麻烦了？再重新做

业的. 但这个公司新开了个组, 想进入个新内容, 就3个人(business manager,
program manager, marketing)开始策划, 2年后招了其他行业的各种有经验的人来. 我
是进入这个组的第一个技术人员, 之后2个月又从外面进了个60岁左右的光学博士和50-
60岁模样的architech. 2-3个月里还从公司其他部门转来了测试的, 机械工程师, 和再
加的marketing的人.
现在是program manager管我, 也管那个光学博士和architech. 上周轮到我和老板谈

1.看有的妹妹说要尽量找些unique的topic和recruiter的人谈，去impress别人,这样回
来好写感谢信。可是我准备了好多small talk的topic, 和人谈了一圈下来感觉没有什
么unique的话题能让别人记住我。大家都是怎么impress对方的呢?
2. 有的妹妹说在招聘会那天和recruiter谈完以后对方会在你的简历上打勾打叉表示对
你的肯定或否定.如果是这样的话我还不如不去和recruiter谈，直接在学校的career
center投简历去拿on campus interview的机会呢，反正大的cpa firm都会在career
center post 职位的。

”。我的优势是有绿卡，GPA高，location在精算集中的地区， 口语不错，我的
determination, 和老公的大力支持。
七月份开始收集考试材料，八月份开始备考，11月份考FM和P。十月份的时候发现附近
一所大学有精算招聘会，就抱着试一试的去了，没想到就有了面试机会，因为都不是急
着召人，前前后后两个多月，才“修成正果“。其间的一些感想，希望对大家
jobhunting 有所帮助。
1。 对于career changer 来说，第一个要面临的问题必然是“why actuary?”。回答
好这个问题非常之关键。我强调了家庭原因，并暗示了不会relocate到其他地方。我的
一个朋友说，她招人的时候总是希望流动性不会很强的，否则刚刚train玩就走人，她
觉得很累。当然还说了我觉得这个行业很有挑战性，并可以结合我的能力和兴趣。强调
并不是只要a job,而是a career，才选择这个career path，知道要考很多试，但都已

long as they are not "career students".
I will trash the resume as soon as I see in the education section, say,
someone who had 1 master in China and 2 master degrees in the U.S. (all in
different fields) and is writing actuarial exams in his/her spare time. I
just don't want to hire someone who is in college FOREVER (e.g. 10+ years)

的job，指的就是养家糊口行的吧。一般有硕士以上学历的，估计要找的就是career类。

写这东东的来源，是因为看到板上各位近半年多来悲剧的多，还有不少人想咱到美国
到底来干什么来了。年少轻狂，粪土王侯的是大家都干过，高调的谈到美国如何
如何实在也没多大意义。就谈谈选专业的问题 － 指的是要career，不仅仅是job的。
本人原来学生化，本科毕业后到美国一所还算不错的学校读生化，导师也算是领域里的泰斗
极人物，相互关系也不错。读了三年，对实验性的研究逐渐失去了兴趣。那是是2000年
年初吧，计算机正是如火如荼，说句不好听的，是个人上几门课就能找个工作，工资还比
生物PHD高 （如果生物PHD能找到工作的话）。生物转计算机人，我认识的就一大把。说
实话，那时也不是没动过这心。后来没转计算机，转成了bioinformatics。 主要是这

下网站上今年的program，没发现有career fair。之前去ACS，觉得他们的career fair
弄得挺好的。求问AICHE有没有类似的career fair.如果能有的话，顺便也召唤一下愿
意carpool的同学，我从新泽西北部出发。
看到好多求工作refer的，我也求一下，本人背景biochemical and chemical
engineering. 本科主要是做生物制药，发酵，biosensor。PhD是做hydrogel polymer,
surface coating, biomaterials.传统化工，高分子，已经process的课程修了很多。

1. 以前只去过夏天在东岸的，没去过西岸的，请问这两个的career fair有很大的区别

Each year after match day, the Student/Resident/Fellow Committee of ACAP
will host the "Welcome and Career Development Seminar". It will be a good
time for us to know and network with each other, and learn from our senior
residents/ attendings. This year, the seminar will be hosted at Flushing

challenging. But if you are willing to take the risk, regulatory is still a
fair good career: good pay, high visibility, quick career advancement, long
years of career. At least for now... |

complain they have to spend a lot of time to do no medical related works
such as insurance paper work and etc. They feel frustrated. Still a lot
people go to medical school.
My dentist used to tell me that dentist is a labor work. Most of routine
is to clean the teeth. But dentist is still a good career.
There are a lot of positive opinions about pharmacy career. I bring out only
