首先声明一下： 我发帖子的目的是希望能帮到那些正在找工作或想换工作的的中国人
。最终的目标是希望建立一个温暖的中国人的社区：大家之间能相互关爱，更加团结。
帖子里的信息几乎所有的在加州政府工作的工程师都收到了。但没有贴出来。我内心里
很失望。 希望通过自己的努力来改变这个现状。
现在进入正题。
1. Caltrans 成暴发户了。
今年年初， 加州议会几经周折后通过了Senate Bill 1 法案， 决定今后十年，每年通
过增加汽油税和车辆注册费等形式给Caltrans 每年5. 2 Billion。 Caltrans 一下子
发了。紧接着就是招人。 这是Caltrans 在近二十年以来最大的扩招。
这里说一点政府招人的特点： 过了这村没这店。 有机会时什么阿猫阿狗都可以，没机
会时再牛也不行。没有种长期规划。 如果想进政府，现在是最好的时间。机不可失，
时不再来。

发帖数: 55 | 2 今天又拿到Caltrans的offer了。可惜薪水太低了。不到我现在薪水的一半。痛苦呀。
若不是现在石油行业不景气，早就看都不会看一眼。Obama上台后肯定会大兴土木，应
是土木的黄金年。
没找到工作的同志们赶紧投吧。Caltrans的人告诉我，虽然他们表面上hiring freeze,
但是极缺engineer,有很多tricks.
看来土木的春天来了，来的还很早。

Caltrans 也很多年了，最近刚涨了工资，好像也还不到 6 位数。他说不做 manager
的话，这个数就是 engineer 职位的上限了。

发帖数: 629 | 4 That is true. Caltran just boosted their pay recently. Also, before CA state
budget was approved, those management level people only got minimum pay (~$
8/hour). But consider the benefits, working for Caltran means much more than
just salary, plus you do not have to work hard, at most 20 hrs real work
per week. One of my friend worked for the city and they assigned him some
spreadsheet work and gave him 2 weeks to finish. He finished the task in 2
to 3 hrs. He just surfed internet for the rest o |

发帖数: 55 | 5 这两个职位最少一个是作Pavement Research：主要是面对University of California
，California State University等各个大学的Pavement研究和相关研究中心，例如
UCPRC 等。另外主要作Structure和 Geotechnical 相关研究。但最好在简历中提到
Pavement experience，多少要有点。
想进政府工作混清闲，或者今后想做Faculty,想了解政府如何审批管理项目的同志们可
以下手了。这个职位不做具体研究，但会把握今后研究方向：评审Proposal, 和各校教授
Negotiate项目，和管理研究项目。
收入：如果有加州PE一年11.5万左右（明年大涨工资之后），还有Pension，因为最近
政府和工会PECG contact变化，Pension不如以前，大概25年之后拿最高工资70%—100%。
这个位置最少会找两个人。硕士学历即可，虽然不少申请人都是各校PHD.目前申请的人
还比较少，可能因为政府职位空炮内定的多，以前把大家心伤了吧。好在这两个职位是
不多见的真的。

你说的这个11万5应该是那个职位工资范围的最高值吧？新人进去应该是从最低值或中
间值开始，要过几年才能到最高值。
还有Caltrans的new hire's pension应该是calpers的2%@62吧？这个干25年就算是67退
休也不过是最高工资的63%左右而已

发帖数: 55 | 8 关键是找对人。其实Caltrans的职位非常多，还给办H1B,是个很好的赞经验的地方。
我曾经贴过一个联系人的联系方式，使其不胜其扰。这次就不贴了。
大家若需要我推荐，请在我正式决定去以后再跟我联系。我近一两个月也就是石油行业
大规模裁员之前估计不会去。说句实话,论薪水，交通比石油差的不是一点半点。
另外补充一点：看薪水不能只看多少钱，最重要的是在那里拿那些钱。比如保持Houston $100k生活水平在San Fransico 需要将近$200k。 Cnn.com有个converter,学校career center的信息palmphalet上都有介绍。

and other stuff (overtime, etc.), he can make 6 digits. I don't think he is
manager. He is PE, not SE. He is in 40s. |

Loads of overtime if you work in a busy branch, with good job security and
benifits. No other State DOT can reach the same level. |

He said, in Caltrans, if your title is Senior, then you are in management
position. And for most of the engineers who are working on the technical
position, the titles are usually civil engineers, and the upper limit of the
salary is $8,379/mo, or $100,548/yr. Actually, before August or September,
this upper limit was even lower, just $7,617/mo. So compare to some other
big companies, this is kind of low! |

识2个在sac caltrans的一个bridge engineer，一个project manager，都是90年代初
来美国，然后进里caltrans，上次跟他们吃饭，我问了问caltrans的年薪，他们年薪现
在好像100k左右吧，但是他们说主要是工作稳定，退休福利好，加上他们都在sac住，
那里的日常消费都不贵，所以很好的日子。另外一个cantrans的朋友是在SF的，工作也
有10多年了，Standford Civil Structure毕业，现在还是没有PE，一年100k不到。 |

If you are driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle and Caltrans calls for chains on
those as well YOU SHOULD NOT be driving as you don't have adequate
experience with that weather - actually few people should be driving in that
weather. Do you realize how bad conditions have to be that Caltrans would
require chains on 4 wheel drive vehicles? Why would you put yourself through

我给你的highwayrobbery网站就是针对加州的，很有用。
另外，你不妨回去看一下photo enforced的警示标志是否都立在那个路口了，距离路肩
和地面的距离是否符合caltrans的标准。有时候刮风下雨施工，都有可能导致立的牌子
倒了，或者临时挪了地方。黄灯的长度是否符合caltrans的标准。你的case应该根本到
不了这一步，不过可以提前做好准备，以防万一。
另外，就算输了，在加州第一个点，不会影响保险费用的。 |

在保险公司的是岩土工程博士, 公司在洛杉矶, 是针对泥石流,边坡稳定等灾害评估.
上面有人问 Caltrans, 我刚有个哥们博士刚从URS去Caltrans, 说是比公司工资待遇高,
具体多少, 没问.
多年前, 我还有老美师姐去了 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Federal
Job起薪不底. 听说高的技术等级一年14万, 基本到顶了. |

Remember, these are monthly wages, not including benefits and employer
contributions to retiremet.
Note: Range A through C for Engineers is unlicensed (typically 2 to 6 years
of experience). Range D is with CA PE (i.e. must take CA Specific Seismic
and Surveying). |

Caltrans保证engineer 的income与工业界持平。外加上pension和轻松的work load,不
认为在土木行业有任何一家公司可以compete.
别的DOT工资低了一些，但若有pension和轻松的work load,也很不错。 |

发帖数: 54 | 50 存钱到2002年才开建。建了11年是有的。外包给中国的是预制件。安装还是CalTran。
建好了发现有设计问题。有些螺栓不够力。后来又推迟通车6个月把螺栓换了。好不容
易通车几个月了，昨天又说，额，还是达不到设计要求。Perfect storm来的时候不好
说。实在太无语了。 |
