crispy, funny and clever, of a bit too much mockery tho. The author is
William Goldman who once wrote script for the movie Butch ? and Sundance Kid
(starred Paul Newman & Robert Redford; you cant find any two more lovely
ruffians/thieves/robbers/killers than them.)
The whole title is: the princess bride, S. Morgenstern's classic tale of high

我喜欢《Titanic》、《About Schmidt》等电影里的Kathy Bates，bos、kalel、
aixiaoke都推荐她的奥斯卡得奖片《Misery》。昨晚半夜看完，深一脚浅一脚地赶去图
书馆还dvd，不是因为暴雨积水，是腿软。
Misery是影片中畅销作家Paul Sheldon （不是假托八十年代的西德尼•谢尔顿吧
？）笔下的主角，Sheldon因之而被自称第一粉丝的Kathy Bates劫持——其实他出车祸
并非Bates设计，他写的新小说Bates也没看过，这起劫持似乎是出于天意+从模糊变清
晰的占有欲。Bates对Sheldon极尽阿谀之词：“It’s not just great, it’s

发帖数: 5 | 7 说起爱国这个词，我觉得实在太cheap，太烂了，当年杨先生和某某物理大头合办了某助
学金，专门资助国内的贫困女生上学，当时某老先生的计算机弄不了中文，都是我帮该老
先生弄的。某老很值得我敬佩，自己吃干菜，还要省下钱来资助贫困学子。他们这样的人
，跟我爹娘都是一个样的，认死理，自己胆颤心惊地当了一辈子的罗罗，省下钱来供我这
个儿子上学。
但这是你们应该做的吗？当时我就跟给老先生说：“资助2万刀，改变一个人的命运，改变中国
的政治，拯救的却是14亿中国人”。
中国的问题根本不在于你们这些学物理的回不回去，中国的问题不是在于没有人才，中国
有14亿人口，可以说什么都可能缺，唯一不缺的就是人才。当年我老板在SSC取消时说：
“we are just butch of physicists without any political power, the congress is
just looking for something to cut”。一个没有political power的physicist能改变
中国的命运吗？
就像当年鲁迅弃医从文一样，中国需要的是能够投身于改变中国社会制度的有 |

中文翻译成"虎豹小霸王"，汗，仿佛少儿不宜似的。
Fan纽曼是因为除了帅，他演技也很棒啊。他被人记住的角色是强盗骗子，其实戏路很
广，还演了不少舞台剧改编的电影，比如Cat on a Hot Tin Roof（Tennessee
Williams的作品）， The Long, Hot Summer（William Faulkner的小说改编的），
都非常经典。
我前一阵才看Match Point，就想到Paul Newman一个老片叫From the Terrace，都是野
心勃勃的年轻人不择手段向上爬。
