昨天系里一个学生给了个talk,名字叫buckyball workshop.事先他跟我打听去不去
听他讲座的时候,我顺便问了一下,什么叫buckyball啊,他答说,就是挂了我们(他是
我officemate)一房间的那些大球小球.我一听乐了,这玩意我早就想学了,当然要去.
结果昨天的talk我迟到一小时,去的时候整个数学系最大的房间--talk所在地--已经
挤满了人,每人面前一小沓方形色纸,手上一截动工中的buckyball.我当即加入战场,
搜罗下一堆纸开始折.讲座人Anton在前面大黑板上狠命讲他的edge coloring原理,
讲他是怎么找到proper 3-coloring of一个大buckyball的.我基本上没听进去,反正
是跟图论有关的东东.(图论这玩意儿我理应熟悉,不过一直没太研究过) 忙了一个
多小时,完成了两个properly 5-colored 小型buckyball,拿回去一个送我导师(被他
扔进他的垃圾堆?)一个自己留作纪念.
昨天跟anton打听到了他的纸张来源后,今天就兴冲冲跑去买了两本纸回来,一个紫色

发帖数: 3714 | 6 办公室里的模型们囊括我现在能找到的全部种类,当然还有一些是anton的独门绝活,
好比钢丝衣架做成的伸缩圈(名字我现取的).
buckyball这玩意,是一个叫Tom Hull的人主要在做的.他如今在一个叫merrimack college
的地方做assis prof,ph.d研究方向是双向图的着色问题,而如今实际上在干的方向
是折纸中的数学.他设计的buckyball折叠modular,最普通的一种是叫做phizz的小玩意,

有了这些小unit之后,经过适当组合就可以弄出不同的形状,最简单的dodecahedron
只要30个unit就可以完成,而90个unit则可以做一个足球模型.

发帖数: 2024 | 29 还是要靠一点运气的，杨李的那篇文章也是当时乱猜时的一篇，BCS理论也是误中，
smalley的buckyball，高温超导，氦3的超流等等都是偶然发现的。当然也要是有准备
的头脑，J. Wheatley的实验室在Osheroff半年前就发现了He3的超流，不过当时
Wheatley一直想转到工业界去，他一直没有看学生的实验数据，所以错失了诺奖。呵呵。 |

或者未成形的球.我还是了无睡意,却担心着四小时后要去见系主任的事,只好打算
不睡了(希望这次能成功,上次打算不睡觉结果到最后一小时没挺住).我突然想到,
大家多少知道点折纸(小时候折过船,鹤,飞机,宝塔,气球)吧,不过我看了一晚上的
各式网页(顺便又把主页更新了一下,加了几个有用的链接,有兴趣的话可以去看),
多少算得上10%(?)的专家,就科普一点吧.有多少货倒多少货,不带增删.
首先origami分两种,modular和non modular的.船鹤飞机那些是单个存在,所以是后者.
而我实际上最感兴趣的,包括那个buckyball,还有epcot ball---特美的一个模型在此:
