我是个在COMMUNITY非常活跃的人。可以非常肯定地说,在美国邻里之间交流,男女是
有别的。只有some国内来的,男女角色颠倒, ”飕头飕气“的。比如一个男的和女邻
居讲话时手舞足蹈,唾沫飞溅;女的和男邻居讲话,明明没想和人去勾搭,却摆出一副
老婆的样子。

知识分子与美国读书界《纽约书评》及其他
美国朋友与我讨论时事。他问我,为何在有关中国的新闻中,往往叫中学生为intellectuals(
知识分子)。我解释说,这是两国情况不同所致。中国人所称的“知识分子”,与英美人所称
的intellectuals有质的不同,不能互划等号。中国所谓“知识分子”是指识字的、受过教育
的、懂得常识的。在解放之前,绝大部分群众未受起码教育,因此一个受过中等教育的人,
也可称得上一个“知识分子”。而在英美,几乎人人识字,所谓intellectuals就只指社会上
层有学术造诣的人士,如教授、学者、科学家、作家、编辑等。单是一个大学毕业生,并不
一定是个intellectual。这犹如中国人说一个人“有文化”,指的是此人识字(literate),
而英美人所谓a man of culture是指有文化修养的人,绝不能混为一谈。美国朋友听了,恍
然大悟。
我写了这段开场白,是为了在这篇通讯中,我要不时提到intellectuals。如果单纯译
为“知识分子”,恐要造成误解,故暂且译为“高级知识分子”(英文中为了强调,也有high brow intelle

first two of three kinds of application below:
(1) Scholastic English versus Scholastic Chinese, e.g. high-brow intellectual

自从买了smartphone,download了一个名著60部必看,话说这个library还真不错,确实
找到了一本我想看的书,已经在当当找到同样版本,打算节后下单。当然library里面
也有《飘》,无所事事的时候又看了下,发现这个版本真不错,坑爹的是译者的信息没
有,好些地方非常精彩,很是惊讶之前怎么没发现,但也可能是不同的年龄段能有不同
感悟吧。看电子书怎么也不如纸质书,因为纸质可以翻来翻去,而且可以highlight,
并且眼睛不累。
在当当上一找,找出N个《飘》的译本,就是没有这个电子书版的,也真是坑爹。借助
百度,才找到译者,戴侃&李野光.在线阅读的基本是这个版本,但是没有一个地方注明
译者,太不可思议了。在线的都是盗版?
找到相关的一篇文章,列了较为知名的五个译本。最早的傅东华本我是看过的,印象中

服事上帝,祂的面与名
经文: 「祂的仆人都要事奉祂,也要见祂的面。祂的名字必写在他们的额上。」(启示
录廿二︰3,4)
到那日在荣耀之地,这三种福份都将属于我们。
「祂的仆人都要事奉祂。」再也没有其他君王会来压迫我们,没有其他俗事来
烦扰我们。我们可以毫不困倦,毫无差错地事奉上帝︰这就是信徒所向往的天堂乐境,
能在永生的来世里,单单地属于上帝,并事奉祂,这是信徒最大的盼望。
「也要见祂的面。」这使得我们服事起来更加有劲,也是我们服事最直接的报
偿。我们都将要认识上帝,因我们要见祂的面。任何忠心的仆人都忠心的企盼,能见到
上帝的面。摩西不是说︰「求祢让我看到祢的面。」
「祂的名字必写在他们的额上。」因着信徒不断地仰望主,上帝的名就返照在
他们的额上。他们认识上帝,上帝也认识他们。这个秘密记号,有如由内外显的荣光,
是掩藏不住的,必要在众人中间显露出来。
