发帖数: 1371 | 8 最近一个周末，伙同一群人去了Maroon Bells附近，一方面是为了大多人数看黄叶，另
一方面是我们少数几个爬山。
我们爬山的目标是Pyramid Peak。它和Maroon Bells隔着山谷相对，高度刚好1万4千尺
出头，比North Maroon Peak高一点点，比Maroon Peak矮。在主要的观光景点Maroon
Lake却看不到此山，不过在Maroon Creek Road上的一些地方，倒是可以看到Pyramid山
峰的北侧。下面是从网上找的一张照片。
去年爬N Maroon的时候，大部分时候也是正对着Pyramid（西侧）。
于是今年就早早定好计划，一个多月前就订了Maroon Bell景区里面的camping site，
既方便看黄叶，同时也方便爬山。这个camping site虽然有点点宰人（15刀加9刀网上
预定费再加5刀停车费，倒是免了门票），不过帐篷搭在黄色的aspen树丛中，还是有一
点点情调的。
第二天一早，我们几个爬山的4点钟就起来，5点过到了Maroon Lake的停车场，这时停

上回说到，Elk Range那几个老大难都还没碰过，话音刚落,机会就来了。几个跟我一样
只有找到有人垫背才敢尝试的WSN凑在一起,组队浩浩荡荡杀奔Aspen而去。为此专门请
了一周假,因为这几个山头的碎石是出了名的,在那儿挂掉的都不是因为摔,而是被别人
踩下来的飞石击中。周间爬山的人少,相对安全些。
行程如下:
周一,开到Aspen，午饭后到Maroon Lake TH,背着包包走到Crater Lake扎营
周二,从South Ridge上Maroon Peak
周三,从Northeast Ridge上North Maroon Peak
周四,从Northeast Ridge上Pyramid Peak
周五,睡个懒觉,收拾东西,慢悠悠地回到Maroon Lake TH，散伙回家。
Maroon Lake TH到Crater Lake只有一迈多一点,上升不到一千尺。Crater Lake的高度

1885年的一本老书，要不是穿越，我才不会看。终究还是在灌水间的空闲把它翻完了，
说实话看得有点囫囵吞枣，一个是因为着急看他们上岛（前一半都是在海上航行），一
个是对航海帆船术语不熟悉，看得有点蒙。就讲讲大概情节吧，看看1885年的探险小说
都是怎么玩的。
Nancy Bell，也不知道是一艘什么样的帆船（书上可能有讲，我没仔细看，哈哈），拉
着一串人从英国到新西兰。船客有个美国佬，有位大官夫人，重要的是还有位退役皇家
海军中校(commander，这回整对了吧，bos?) 一路上能抓马的都抓马了，还捎带着有中
校女儿和船上有理想有勇气的富二代水手之恋。
这船也倒霉，一出港，还在西班牙边上比斯开湾就遇到了风暴，有惊无险。然后中间穿

Bell 定理

里面是肉和cheese （或还有spanish rice）的 stuffed bell pepper大家吃得多了，
吃肉太腻，家里正好有鱼，就做了个亚洲风味的stuffed bell pepper，觉得很清爽.
下面的菜谱没有肉，如果喜欢可以加点groud meat (加肉的话要先和其他切成丁的配菜
炒成金黄色再放进去bake）
材料（都是approx)：六个中等size的organic bell pepper (costco里面一包,做6个的
话够6个或者3个人吃了，看你还做不做其他菜）
两到3个tilapia fillet，最好是wild caught的
lemon pesto (买了方便，直接涂上去鱼上。不买的话，可以用柠檬，lenmograss,
basil之类marinate fish)， 一个 lemon

戴上手铐的事情。各种花边新闻，小道消息，砖家分析也满天飞
我觉得最有趣的是今早新闻里采访最早捅出来此事的一个小记者
据说是隔壁city maywood bankrupt了，city没钱了，只好layoff所有city 雇员，并把
city一并事务外包给bell，一个小记者也就报道一下此事写个小新闻，遂去参加bell的
board meeting
会后聊天，随口问city manager how much do you make
结果此人恬不知耻大言不惭骄傲地说，78万。
小记者听了很震精，追问
结果此人还很得意，well, you got paid what you got paid
中国有句俗话，闷声发大财，看来bell的居民脑残，文化低，从来不参与任何民主生活
，任由每次选举，board meeting的几个人随意“代表”，
这个city manager脑袋也不灵光，偷偷发财就算了，还自己得意洋洋地捅出来告诉记者

bells！”看着儿子的笑脸，我的心情特别好，随手在电脑上敲下了这次征文的题目：
JINGLE BELLS.
“叮叮当，叮叮当，铃儿响叮当”，第一次在国内的大街上听到这首歌的中文版时，我
就喜欢上了它。虽然在国内不过圣诞节，可是听着这欢快的童音，想象着小孩子们坐在
雪橇上，快乐的穿过田野奔向远方的画面，
我就象走进了一个童话世界，童话世界里孩子们在欢乐的唱歌，在尽情的玩耍，童话世
界里的我忘却了所有的烦恼和不快。第一次听英文版的“jingle bells”时，英语听力
很差的我，只听懂了高潮部分的这几句，不过这丝毫不影响这首歌的欢快的曲调扫除我
心里的阴霾。再后来在大学里，这首歌听得多了些，都能听懂了，可是记不住歌词，唱
不了完整的。直到来美国后，结婚生子，孩子都长大了会唱这首歌了，一定让我跟他一
块唱，我才学会了这首歌。
我虽然喜欢这首歌，可是我从没有去了解这首歌的历史，我甚至不知道这首歌的作曲作
词者。我去看了维基百科，这首歌是James Lord Pierpont写的，在1857年秋最初的歌

4月9日，英国皇家工程院院士、中国工程院外籍院士、国际材料表面学科的创始人
Tom Bell教授接过校党委书记王建华的聘书，正式成为我校教授。根据协议，Bell教授
从2007年起的4年间，每年至少在我校工作6个月以上，并担任新近成立的西安交通大学
表面工程国际研究开发中心主任。这是一个新的里程碑，是我校吸引国际大师长期来校
工作的良好开端。
聘任仪式由副校长卢天健主持。教育部、国家外专局、英国驻中国大使馆分别发来
的贺信，祝贺
Tom Bell教授来我校工作。王建华书记在致词中说，西安交大正处于快速发展的时期，
地处西部的高校更应该努力吸引国际大师来担任学科带头人，Tom Bell教授出任实职教

吃肉太腻，家里正好有鱼，就做了个亚洲风味的stuffed bell pepper，觉得很清爽.
下面的菜谱没有肉，如果喜欢可以加点groud meat (加肉的话要先和其他切成丁的配菜
炒成金黄色再放进去bake）
材料（都是approx)：六个中等size的organic bell pepper (costco里面一包,做6个的
话够6个或者3个人吃了，看你还做不做其他菜）
两到3个tilapia fillet，最好是wild caught的
lemon pesto (买了方便，直接涂上去鱼上。不买的话，可以用柠檬，lenmograss,
basil之类marinate fish)， 一个 lemon
姜片
半包中国店里面卖的田园油炸豆腐块
chicken broth 一灌 (less sodium的）
一碗煮好的白饭 （不要用太sticky的东北或者日本米了。其实spanish rice最好，家
里只有泰国茉莉香米，用了也凑合）

第二天独立日那天(7.4)清早开始爬Pikes Peak最经典的Barr Trail
12迈到山顶，爬升7800feet (2300多米)
然后搭别人车下山，或者坐火车下来(如果还有票的话)
因为那里夏天下午经常有雷阵雨，所以登山日期也要看当天天气而定
会选择7月4日(周五)或7月5日(周六)
之后去Aspen, 7月6日(周日)早晨9点前开车进Maroon Bells（早晨9点到下午5点只能坐
tour bus）
Maroon Bells->Crater Lake－>West Maroon Pass, 总共往返13迈，爬升3000 feet，
不难.
我7月7日(周一)晚上飞机离开Denver
如果有兴趣一起爬部分或全程的请跟我联系（只要你有足够体力）
本人男，经常爬山，最近刚一天走完大峡谷
