PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) – A skier who died after an avalanche in the Tahoe
National Forest on Thursday afternoon has now been identified.
The Nevada County Coroner says the skier who died in 29-year-old Benjamin
Brackett of Olympic Valley.
The incident occurred 500 vertical feet below Stanford Rock off Highway 89

It is organized by Friends of Utah Avalanche Center. Highly recommended.
And you've got a chance to meet Bruce Temper in person, :) We have people
fly from north carolina just to take this class.
1st day field trip: beacon search/mock rescue
2nd day field trip: digging snow pit, doing stability test, FUN!
3rd day field trip: safe travel and route planning/finding. It was snowing
whole day, and finally have some decent ski |

But weird thing does happen,like the avalanche which happened inbound
snowbird and killed a skier a couple years ago...
We are all in the mercy of mother nature. I think in a sense we should have
the best gear we can get, it might just save your life, you never know.

每年大雪的时候，为了保持高速公路畅通，经常必须用爆破的方法，将山腰上已经堆积
但尚未崩下来的雪给炸下来，这叫做人工雪崩。目的是将山腰上积雪炸下来，清干净了
，未来几天之内就算再下雪，也不会造成意外的雪崩，伤及过往车辆。小雪的时候，
WSDOT 可以自己派人爬上山腰，埋炸药，然后引爆。但如果碰到大雪时，或者气候急剧
变化时，人工的方法一方面时效慢，二方面炸药威力小。这时 WSDOT 在军方的联络官
会与军方联系，动用美国陆军的 105 山炮，从几英里以外的地方进行地面炮击，用炮
弹把大雪打下来。
你拍照片这段地方是 Snoqualmie Pass 的重要隘口，公路因为地势而弯曲，炮兵的前
进观测官视野不佳，所以建造了这个观测所，让他可以在里面高喊 “向我开炮！”。

如果说之前两次的backcountry都算是甜蜜体验，那这一回它算是给了我点颜色看看。
正式开始爬之前，朋友花了大概一小时教我们怎么用avalanche beacon搜寻雪崩的被埋
者。虽然原理是简单，但是怎样正确的解读beacon signal，用最快的速度定位雪下的
victim，还是需要很多的practice。而这，还只不过是avalanche rescue的第一步而已
。看来，下个season是要上个课，系统的学一下avalanche的有关知识。
Ski trail 比之前两次都陡，从trail head到flagstaff peak，1 mi左右爬升了1500
ft。滑行的动作在逐渐熟练中，但是还是要 |

skier 最喜欢的slope 也是avalanche最常发生的slope. forgot the exact degree.
that is why a lot of mountain watch program manually trigger the avalache if
they believe one is going to happen. Of course they cannot prevent everything,
that is why some poeple die from avalanche every year.
