research associates get H-1Bs. Research associates also get paid more. In
terms of responsibility, research associates usually have to work on

assocate 并tenure 时工资涨了12%。另一个直接assocate四年后只tenure木有涨工资
。开始他工资比我高。现在我的工资已超过他了。我这里有工会，进来以后工资很难再
涨了。只有两次涨工资的机会（assistant to associate then to full).
如果是直接给tenure当然是拿assocate了。但不是大牛不可能。 不然associate 没有
任何益处。 |

发帖数: 313 | 9 在market上一段时间了，发现faculty的位子有两类。一类是assistant/associate
tenure-track professor，这类是给刚入行的，或者有几年经验，在track里呆了几年
，但还没有拿到tenure的。另一类是tenured full professor，这类是给行业里的大牛
的，一般都带大量的房顶，或者带一个group一起Move。这类人基本上要靠“挖”，系
里没人大力推荐基本没戏。
偶到目前为止还没有看到tenured associate professor的位子，有些学校可以给non-
tenured associate professor + 2-3年tenure clock，但是对tenure还是很谨慎的。
版上有没有类似经验的，说说。 |

，以postdoc身份找比较好、还是research associate比较好。这三年保持postdoc的身
份有什么优势（除了一作的文章）？
但我估计如果我做了单独的课题，老板没有理由不给一作吧；就怕他给我安排些杂事来
做。

may not hold H-1B, O-1, L-1, TN or other such employment-based visas because

在F1那边又说:"Authorization to work or receive a stipend is limited to 12
months and is non-renewable.
Note: The 17-month STEM extension of OPT does not apply to NRC Associates

关于职位的介绍。我们这里Research Associate必须是有博士学位的，然后有一个PRA
（professional research assistant）就是非博士学位的。
而且听说还分是不是走将来做PI的路线的，Research Associate这个职位据说不是这个
路线的，但是我个人觉得，只要学校给你一个可以做EB1B的职位，具体什么都是很重要

是从我的DISH DRYER 漏下去的，因为我几乎从来没有用过，住在这里15多年，从以前
的一个物主那里买下来。大概用过的一次是在至少6年之前。因为我觉得不可能是因为
我的原因，所以，我就让ASSOCIATION 来检查了。
ASSOCIATION 指派的人打开DRYER下面，发现有木质的水迹，已经干了的，他就说说明
漏过，有可能从这里漏下去。又说，边上的SINK 上也有水迹，有可能从缝隙里漏下去
。这个简直是没有道理。
DRYER 的水迹根本不足以引起滴穿下面的CEILING，再说我几乎没有用过，这个水迹已
经干了，是已经很久了。SINK上面怎么可能没有水？也不可能漏水，因为我在缝隙之间
都用CORDING, 胶水是的东西封住的。即使有点水滴，也不至于把下面的CEILING 滴穿
吧。
接下去,ASSOCIATION 要把下面的CEILING 打开，说如果发现是楼上漏水，就要我赔。
我觉得这件事搞复杂了，到时候是怎么样都是他们说了算，我也不懂。

是给付的，自己出得很少，upenn 对postdoc 待遇很差，基本家属的保险都不保，如果

Ph.D.学生论文答辩，我问了一些专业技术问题，学生伙同其老板和我们系中的全体论
文委员会成员（除了外系的委员）一起把我告到Associate Dean，说我干扰论文答辩。
我只是在正常提问时间问了问题，以及在答辩开始前问了一个程序问题（为什么不公开
通知？为什么不公布论文摘要？）提问时间结束之后，我立即离场，没干扰论文委员会
的投票。就因为这，我又成了被告，说我问了太多问题，干扰学生回答问题，说话语调
不对，等等。Associate Dean连同HR一起拷问我，又要给我纪律处分。有人建议我请律
师，有必要吗？
这不是坑，但我是奇葩，遇到的事也是只有奇葩才能遇到的事。 |
