发帖数: 92 | 1 周末灌个水：版上不少attendings，想问大家是如何看待美国民间和媒体对 ’Ascian
Americans'的‘边缘化’和stereotype的问题。医生－无论是否在obamacare下会不会
‘broke'，从职业上都是令人尊重的。至少我的体会是这样的。不知道各attendings在
自己事业爬升中，是否还有心想‘无聊’的有关对亚男的Stereotype的问题。

发帖数: 92 | 2 Hum, I agree Hollywood is profit-driven. It's OK to feature white actors if
they 'believe' that's part of the selling points.
But if the 'ugly' little, evil, babaric Ascian men is also part to make
profit, it's sad. Why Ascians, even 帅叔如李连节 is always the most skilled,
cold-blooded ugly killer...
Actually I was glad to read that CNN 'whitewashing' story, it shows up in
CNN per se, is already a big improvement, isn't it?! |

Stereotype'? :-/
If your argument holds water, why is there no Jap heros (OK, there is the
Pearl Harbor...), how about Philipinos :-) Or just any Ascian American GUY..
...
@Lexian, it seems like it's doomed since it's passed down from early
generations of Chinese before we even learned to write ABCs...

我老公最大的优点：就是心底善良，家庭观念强，对我妈还有我家人都很好。
这次我妈不是要来么？我和我妈没商量好她几号来。我老公几乎没过几天就问：妈妈什
么时候来啊？让妈妈早点来，妈妈就可以和我们散步，然后和你说悄悄话了。 :)
这个时候，觉得他和上帝一样完美。当然，只是那一刻。 :ugeek:

開心.我生氣時,他基本上都不和我認真叫勁.做事也細心.尤其是我要回國,他啥心都操
到了.我沒有後顧之憂.
還有會存錢. 也不亂花錢,除了有點小愛好花錢外. 再加上他能聽進去我的話.這點讓我
非常滿意.

老公优点太多了, 缺点就是没啥缺点.
这不,从北京回美国后就一直没闲着, 在家刷宝宝房间的墙, 值得表扬哦. :grin: 据说
还要给我惊喜, 不过俺还没琢磨过来是啥惊喜呢.

Dude, you have very smililar thinking as I did when I moved from CA to TN
last year. Yes, You should feel blessed for 9 mile commute in CA. But this
is TN, 9 miles from Campus, you won't be able to see many ascians,see much
diversity, especially in Nipper corner. Also, this 9 mile commute can be a
nightmare during rush hour, at that time, you may think that extra $100 to
rent near campus is well spent. |

can't type chinese in my laptop at work. Ascian language inputs are
disabled. I want to say " lan xin hui zhi" :)
Yeah, good suggestion! I will try to see if I can buy a white skirt to go
with this top. I haven't wear skirts for god knows how many years.......
We don't have a dress code in our site, but skirts, open-toe are not allowed
in lab. And nobody wears stylish high heel shoes, it's kinda awkward to

I agree with what you have said.
with tenure, I am in a safe stage, nobody can discriminate against me. With
this confidence, I do not fear any discrimination.

首先我们要面对现实， 白人是多数， Asian是少数， 太少了。 一些商业产品那么做
是有它的道理的。 如果葛优能让Hollywood的票房大增， 葛优照样可以当头牌。
其次， 任何民族都有redneck， 看看中国人歧视黑人，朝鲜人， 还有日本人的帖子，
那些网络语言又算什么呢？
任何人对陌生人都有警觉的本能， 不同种人之间的防范更是理所当然。 所以我不觉得
我会为这个而困扰。到中国， 我可能也会做同样的事。
但是我本人觉得美国是一个相对公平和宽松的国家， 我们大多数中国人在美国应该得
到了很多， 否则不会有这么多人在美国居留。
整体上， 中国人的形象是靠中国人自己来建立的。
论个人， 就是靠本事吃饭，所以我喜欢private practice。 做自己的主人， 不用看
别人的脸色。 而且， 作为医生来说， 尽管责任重大， 但感觉You are very needed
确实很好。

good at what they are trained to do. I doubt if any get 'discriminated' or
left feeling uncomfortable at work place due to being a Chinese.
How about in other places where you r mingled with the everyday Joes, who do
not know if you r a doctor or a professor, tenured or not. After all
it is a bit too cheap to show your Title not to say to further attach the
info with 'tenured or not', say in a grocery store. :-)

show my ethnicity background. I just want to be myself. I told my patient
very candidly that I graduated from the medical school in China if they

种评论里不要嫁给中国人的白女，说实话我看这里的中国医生还未必看得上呢。
在国内大学医院实习作住院的时候，大家难道都忘记了，外地来的进修医生，连护士都
颐指气使，大家还都是黄皮肤的呢。但是如果那个进修医生考了研，镀了金，留下来作
了副主任，谁还敢说个不字。
在人家地盘上，抢了人家的食，还是好食，自然要多花点功夫，自己有了气场，人家就
不敢明着把你怎么样，暗地里心理怎么不痛快，那时他的事情。

training, not that personal Qs. :-) PS: I could be sleep-deprived those days
and v dumb---- his skin color is not even "BLACK", it's much lighter than
the President and all the Ascians that I know. I wasn't sure if I should ask
him on that issue, therefore I did not. Later I figured it was like that TV
soap named 女奴 that I saw when I was little, and that 女奴 is totally '
White' in skin color.

2。I respectfully disagree with you on the 'rise of China' part. I doubt wether
the status of Asian Americans has anything to do with the 'rise or down' of
China or any other country in Asia?!
3. 我没‘硬要人家好莱坞们都跟韩国日本靠拢，欣赏亚洲脸，也没想强人所难’。我只是
在CNN主页上看到了，读了，还没事又扫了留言。我一直‘学院派’的。真的在象牙塔

‘我们这儿’是个让人爱也让人伤心的地方。以主持人为代表的对’平等，尊重’的无
知和自以为是的让人找不找北呀。我脚的他或是一时丢了面子才让羡慕，嫉妒，恨燃烧
在了舞台上。海龟在‘我们这儿’要低调，’入乡随俗‘，奴才主子的大环境下， 表
张显个性＋新派作风。
在美国，也’入乡随俗‘，为什么一个推崇‘平等自由’的国度，对Asian 就不讲九了
？且似乎咱自己作为Asian Americans， 或Chinese-Americans的爹妈们也‘不care’
，似乎还大有要帮助自己人及下一代来理解被歧视的’逻辑’和试着‘换位思考‘。。。
前几天我挺高兴看到CNN上对两个Chinese American 士兵虐待致死的后继报道。留言中
，some Ascian IDs carry the same old tone （也难怪人对亚男的xxx）, sth like
’who cares，我自己干的好，就 blahblah'。 －－the same thing as some left
following hollywood white-washing report.
