heart adrift （序）
我对序有别样的感情。大约是想让读者了解更多我的想法。
来美国这几年，心情的变化不可谓不大。就比如说这个标题，我
就找不到相应的中文。
午夜梦回。这梦弥足珍贵，在我不能沉睡的这三年。披衣起床，
坐到窗前。月亮就挂在面前，明天又是一个艳阳天。于我却无太多关
联。因为不见阳光，我变得苍白。我在这斗室中渡过一天又一天。
从半年前开始写作，纯水，半纯水。得到酸的评语。大约是刚开始
写作的缘故吧，总想把知道的，一知半解的，都堆在一起。在自我感觉
稍稍好了一点后，开始写这个东东。结果比预想的还是要困难的多。
最缺乏的是情节。没有平空想象的能力，而听到的又不多。即使
有那么几个片断，却凑不到一起。于是乎又变成了灌水。
这水的可读性比一般的水还差些，就算是给自己一个纪念。 |

她说月亮好美。我说我帮你摘它下来。她说不要，咱们就远远得看
吧。放在手心它就不真实了。

我走在无人的长街。两边有些房子，又或者没有？他们的轮廓模糊，
但不是因为有雾。那边有扇窗。是窗么？怎么没有边？窗里有个淡淡的
人影。背影有点熟，过去看个究竟。
房子是透明的？我怎么找不到门？我失去了视觉，彻底的透明和彻
底的黑暗等同。于是我想象黑暗，因为我对黑暗更习惯。嗯，果然好一
些了。我摸索到门，没有锁。反正我带钥匙了，我想。我好象来过这里。
我摸到桌子，椅子。我打开灯，没有反映。哦，我忘了，这是透明的黑
暗，灯不能帮上忙。
我又回到我的假想黑暗。我摸索到楼梯，它在我想象中的位置。我
仍然记不起我什么时候来过这里 |

坐在计算机前，屏幕里是来往的人群。这俨然是另一个生活，里
面的色彩需要仔细观察。我想我该信仰些什么。前些天有位友人邀我
去参加一个聚会。我去了。上来大家先跪坐，然后颂经。我被这中间
虔诚的东西感动，竟然忘记了麻木的双腿。这组织我也略知一些，它
是佛教的一个分支，在北美有几处大寺庙。组织也算严密，每年有几
次大规模的法会，当然有一些稀奇古怪的教义。这些教义我想我是很
难去相信了，这么多年学科学，自然对这种超现实的东西有一种超过
怀疑的否定态度。
不过除去教义以外，那些宗教仪式是我向往的。在一片颂佛的梵
音里，有一种出世，平静，恬淡的感觉。我不指望佛祖来洗脱我的罪
过，我只求这片刻的安宁。
于是我竟然成了个虔诚的教众，日晚诵读经书。 |

我伸出手。为了这刻我等了一百年。她的脸在犹豫。我触到
了她光滑的肌肤。她在颤抖。我说我知道你是谁了。她的嘴唇微
张，但是没有说出话来。我看到她的嘴唇了！
她的脸上留下泪来。我替她拭干。我轻轻将她用入怀里，她
便那样倚着。这一倚又是一百年。

我跪在佛面前，佛的仁厚的手掌抚摸我的头顶。佛娓娓道来。

想起外婆去世的时候，我三岁。我拽着父亲的裤脚，惊惶得望着病榻上
垂死的老人。老人向我伸出手，我走上前。她用最后的精力打量我，似乎想
在我身上找到我外公的影子。可惜我是父亲母亲所有缺点的集合。老人很失
望，这是她第一次见到我。她把目光转向母亲，就咽了气。老人走了， |

“母亲也嫁了三次，那些丈夫还没死绝。”
“这次要详细的。”
我于佛前总是老老实实的，毕竟，佛说我在长进。
我外公是被枪毙的。因此在那样的一个年代，母亲的日子没好过过。母亲后来
和我吹牛说，她是她们学校多少年来最好的学生。读书，体育，文艺，没一样不是
最棒的。母亲的风度和长相也没得说，她四十多岁后身体发福的时候，仍有一堆追
求者。母亲一生都是党的忠实信徒，这种被党打倒者的后代，最后不是最反动，就
是最虔诚的。母亲总是遗憾她没读上大学。后来在她退休后读起了成人高校。居然
还比我早了一年当大学生。
嗯，扯远了。母亲在初中毕业后被迫下放农村。在那个村子里呆了十年。村子
里倒是有一群象她那样的青年。好象当时既聪明又漂亮的青年都是反革 |

我突然停下，长街似乎到了尽头。前面仍然是透明，不过在
这层透明后面，有点东西不一样。
我回头，看着她。她的嘴动了，
“我们回去吧。”
“我想去看看。”

我向前跨了一步，眼前一闪，出现了色彩。我欢呼一声，回
头寻找那张我期待了三百年的脸。然而我只听到一声‘再见’。
我站在两个世界的交界，彷徨无策。这一犹豫，又过了一百
年。

彷徨无策，彷徨无策。犹豫再三，犹豫再三。左边是虚无，右边是现实。我以这
样的姿态矗立两界之间。现实中人们以为奇观。百年中曾有三个人越过我到另一边，
再也没有回来。于是有生事者在我右脸上书：天界。从此，无人敢越我一步。
她没有回来，在我设定的一百年期限。最后一刻，我的半边溶化了，溶化在透明

又到搬家时候了。
一直是个不安分守己的人，却不幸又是个很懒惰的人。除了被迫的搬家，
基本上都是住哪就是哪。这不，这个公寓住了两年，万恶的资本家都涨
了三次价了，要不是买了房子，我不知道还得在这里住到什么时候。其
实心里也明白，早晚是要搬动的，干脆什么家具都没买。沙发，没有，
茶几，也没有，连墙上贴的，也不过是悍马的广告画。既然没有根，生
活质量都考虑不了，还想附庸风雅？算了吧。
现在，墙上的画已经被我撤下，客厅里面全是箱子盒子，可是仍然懒得
收拾东西，打包。本来东西不多，也就磨蹭到最后一天收拾。常言道，
搬家等於失火，很多东西都会扔掉，有多少东西扔掉，打包的任务就可
以轻松多少。这些扔掉的东西，属於过去，却止 |

面都没有比刚进大学时进步。
一份全国性调查从2005年到2009年间，追踪全美24所大学、大约2,000名大学生的学习
情况。这些学生被要求每隔一段时间参加一次大学学习评量测验。
结果显示，经过两年的学习，有45%的大学生在思考、推理以及写作三方面，比刚进大
学时稍微有所进步。不过等到第四年的时候，却有36%的大学生在上述领域的表现都没
有比刚进大学时好。
这些调查结果收录在一本美国最新出版的书《载沉载浮的学术：大学校园里有限的学习
》(Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses)。这本书在分析
了美国大学生如何分配时间后，对如此“惨不忍睹”的学习情况一点也不讶异。以每星
期168小时来算，美国大学生每星期只花大约12小时、也就是7%的时间在课业上，50%的
时间拿来社交，另外24%则拿来睡觉。
这本书同时指出，有一半美国大学生从来不修需要交20页以上报告的课，也有三分之一
大学生修的课每星期的阅读量都不超过40页。
